I sent this picture to you (webmaster) because I didn’t want to clog up Tom's mail box with this photo. Let me know if you want to post it and others on Sallee’s web site under the “Customers Rides” page. I'll crop it down to size for you if you want. Bio:       After 18 years we decided to bring the ’ole Elky up to standard with today’s technology. Aside from all of the suspension upgrades, we thought it would be best to install a Sallee built ZZ430 with a 4L60 transmission. An immense amount of time and money has been spent to make this ’67 Elcamino a “Show-N-Go” ride!       I brought home a first place trophy in my very first attempt at drag racing. My best 1/8th mile run was 8.004 In the picture, if you look by the shed you’ll see a transmission crate the 4L60 came in. Dale Flinn Kim,       As you can see by the pictures, this is not a “Garage Queen”. The problem with mid ’60s Elcamino's in original form, is they handle like a small sailboat in high winds. The solution was to add Koni shocks, new springs, four wheel disc brakes, dropped spindles, tubular A-arms and a 12:1 steering ratio.       I bought the 4L60 from GILBERT CHEVROLET then had it reworked for higher performance and installed a 2400 stall converter. Overdrive makes freeway cruising tolerable, especially with a performance Eaton carrier and 4.10 gears.       The 12-bolt rear end was narrowed 5/8” in order to stuff a 10” wide wheel and the extra large 28x12.5 ET Street’s used for drag racing.       Sanderson built a set of headers to accommodate the tall exhaust ports of the fast burn heads. Unfortunately, I cannot use the cool ZZ430 valve covers due to clearance issues with the alternator and A/C compressor. The seven rib serpentine belt system is made by Zoops and is rock steady even at 6,500rpm with the air-conditioning on! A Holley Annihilator Pro-Series ignition was added to help obtain maximum potential of the zz430 and to ensure the engines safety with the use of nitrous, which will be added in the near future.       With a deceivingly powerful engine at idle and explosive power band, the launch will make you feel like Superman kicked you in the rear. There is no question in my mind that the GILBERT CHEVROLET built zz430 is the best horsepower per dollar you will find anywhere.       Finally after 37 years, this Elcamino can pull .94 lateral G’s, carve though canyon roads like it’s stuck to Velcro, and do the 1/4 mile in 12.7 seconds.
