i have a 97 chevy tahoe, 5.7, 4wd, 4L60E. the problem i have is that the transmission seems to be confused about down shifting from OD to 3rd. at about 1500rpm the tranny will shutter, sometimes for several seconds before downshifting. this usually happens when hot and it will stop shuttering and shift if i apply heavy throttle.it is worse when towing. can anyone help. this is a real headache

Let me set the record straight! I am NOT a transmission mechanic by any means.

You may want to try stepping on the brake to see if the converter disengages from lock up. This
process of elimination will help determine if it's the converter or something else.
Also, it has been my experience that if the (ignition) spark plugs or wires are bad it will give the
transmission a poor signal creating an illusion of transmission failure.

My 93 Park Ave has a similar problem only with a "Whining" noise similar to a toy car that you wind up on the floor by dragging it 3 or 4 times before you let go

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Don Abel says that you might also try having your local dealer hook it up and go for a test drive to make sure the computer is working properly. It could also be the fulid and filter need to be changed.
