I have a '91-'93 Caprice HD motor w/roller cam and timing chain (one piece rear seal). I have a '99 T56. I have about 6 magazines that cover the swap but they seem to leave out a few details. One says it can't be done because the trans only came behind a LS1 motor. Setting the motor and trans up on the floor reviels that the T56 input is about +/- .750 longer than a Muncie w/stock bell housing. Rather than buy an aftermarket bell housing ($$$), it appears that the trans needs to be spaced a like amount from the bell housing. (I have the resourses to make the spacer). Additionally the hyd release bearing (push not pull style)would be spaced the same amount depending on the flywheel/clutch set up. I do realize that I need the small starter, 153 tooth flywheel and the hydraulics from a Camaro. My question is: does this sound feasible and will this swap require a "special" flywheel/clutch assembly?

Paul, check out www.bigfastcar.com . They have done the T56 conversion on the 91-96 Caprice. They should be able to help you out.

Don Abel says that he can not say without knowing if it is new or used. If used, what type of shape is it in?

What identifiers "ON" the trans (Tag or casting numbers etc.)give the exact year and/or ratios. I was "told" that it was a '99 Camaro. I want to be sure.

ThanX, Paul

Paul,
Tom Sallee says that there should be a tag on the right hand side of the trans. bolted to the rear ext. housing.
