There is a book called the 'Big Bock Chevrolet Interchange Book'. This book answers everthing you ever wanted to know about interchanging every single part on every single BB ever made including the GEN VI. For your problem the GEN V heads have an irregular shaped cooling holes while the GEN IV block has round holes. No problem GM makes adapter plates that press into the GEN V heads to make a perfect hole match. Use GEN IV gaskets. For the part numbers get the book. I found it in my local library. There are also manuals for the SBC and Volkswagen Air Cooled. Supposedly there will also be books for Ford and Chrysler. I can really recommend these books.
