The application that you are working with has a direct bearing on the absolute max boost level. If you are working with a light weight vehicle (2600 to 3300 lbs) equipped with a low axle ratio, high stall converter (or a manual trans) then I would suggest limiting the boost to around 6 PSI - The further you get away from this light load, the less boost you should run - especialy for marine applications. I normally prepare the engine for supercharging by disassembling, torque plate hone the cylinders (increase piston to bore a little bit), file fit rings, drop the compression ratio slightly, exchange the engine bearings for high load capable units, and install an appropriate camshaft and valvetrain.
