: I'd like to build a mild 350ci engine for my 79 Vette.
: A friend gave me an engine to use as a base. It appears
: to be a 1969 block (3956618)with 487X heads with 1.94/1.5 valves.
: My plan for the heads is to clean up, polish & match ports
: and get a 3-angle valve job, screw-in studs/guides, & roller
: rockers. I'd like appx 9.5 compression with cast pistons,
: performer intake & compatible cam. Are these heads OK for
: unleaded fuel? If not, should I consider the expense of
: hardened valve seats, or try to find newer heads? Since
: I'm looking for low to mid-range power, would I be better
: off sticking with the existing valve size vs installing the larger
: valves? If I decide to build the engine as a 383, would that
: effect my choice of heads/valve size? Thanks for any advice
: you provide.

It would be better to invest in a new set of heads. Your going to spend alot of money trying to upgrade these heads for todays gas. You can buy a new set of aluminum heads ready to bolt on for under $900.00. save your money.EDELBROCK has a great line of products that are power proven.
