These are some photos that Bill Apperson sent us of his 1970 Chevelle with a ZZ502/502 engine which he has named the Apperson Jack Rabbit. The GMPP ZZ502/502 that he put in it, made a world of difference over the old 396ci engine that use to be in it.

Bill Apperson’s 1970 Chevelle.
The Apperson Jack Rabbit.

This was one of your first 502ci 502hp engines. It has edelbrock heads and manifold. I put a Barry Grant 750cfm carb, elect. fuel pump for the fuel cell, TCI ignition, Chevrolet supplied the chrome headers, starter, flywheel, and I installed a ram clutch ahead of a Richmond 5 speed transmission. The cross brace for the transmission and drive shaft are the only major modifications I had to make, other wise the 502 fit like a glove in the Chevelle. I have taken it to one car show and to the track once. It ran in the low 12s the first time out and that’s not bad after having to shift 5 times down the 1/4 mile.
This engine is all I thought it would be. The power is like nothing I have ever driven or rode in and I graduated High School in 1960 from Cushing Oklahoma, a town full of great racing buffs.
P.S.
I left the tag stating it has a 396 and the side emblems to fool anyone with a race in mind.
