CROSS BRACE AND CENTER BOLT SUPPORT DIFFERENCES | ![]() |

![]() |
Standard steal valve cover has cross braces and a bolt support which due to it’s design is needed for proper strength. The inner lip is less pronounce then the Proform valve covers allowing it to easily fit most GM SBC center bolt heads. | Proform’s cast valve covers do not need a cross brace but the lack of bolt supports means that you will have to be careful when tightening the center bolts or you could damage the valve cover. The inner lip on Proform’s valve covers may need to be milled to .015” - .020” lower then the gasket used to fit properly on some heads. This lip hangs down farther and is vertical compared to the standard steel valve cover whose inner lip hangs down less then the outer lip and is slanted inward. We have a page showing more detailed information on milling the inner lip which will have to be done with some cylinder heads. |
