Chevrolet - GM CAMSHAFTS
These are mostly the camshafts that are shown in the GMPP catalog. If you are looking for one of the hundreds of other GM camshafts, call us on our toll free order line. Chevrolet also carries a large number of Aftermarket company camshafts. This page is being worked on and is replacing the old obsolete price list page. Not all prices are in the Price Search yet and there are a lot more parts to add to this. This is to provide our customers with more information on parts and make obtaining list of prices for specific parts much easier. Type the Key below into the Price & Parts search for a list of camshaft prices currently there.

A distributor with a melonized distributor gear MUST be used on all crate engines with steel camshafts or engine damage will occur. If you are unsure if your distributor has a hardened gear, you need to replace it with one that is hardened. It is recommended that you replace the distributor gear with a new one when installing a new camshaft anyway since they wear match to each other. A hardened distributor gear will work with a non-steel camshaft, but not the other way around. For the GMPP P/N 93440806 distributor, you can use melonized distributor gear part number 10456413.
This a rule of thumb or a not very complicated guideline for people to use to help them in determining what to do about the camshaft and distributor gear situation. So it's not going to cover every possible situation, but will cover 98% or more. 1) There are three main core types of camshafts, Steel, Iron Core, and Hardened Iron core. A steel camshaft will be smooth and shiny between the lobes and machined areas and also will have numbers stamped instead of cast into it. Iron Core and Hardened Iron core camshafts will a darker cast iron look to the metal between the lobes and machined areas. 2) All Roller camshafts are either Hardened Iron core or Steel camshafts which require a hardened distributor gear. 3) All Iron Core camshafts can use a non-hardened distributor gear. 4) All distributors made now come with a hardened gear unless they specifically state otherwise. 5) A bronze or brass gear is not strong enough to hold up to Steel or Hardened Iron core camshafts for any extended time and should be checked often for wear. The more and harder the vehicle is driven the more often it should be checked. On a road racer, this would be checked or scheduled to be replaced after every race, for instance. 6) GM fuel injection systems use a distributor with a different diameter shaft then a distributor for a carbureted engine. Therefore you must make sure you are getting the right gear for your application. The best way to do this is to contact your dealer and have them look up the correct one for you. All replacement distributor gears will be hardened so you don’t have to worry about this if you buy a new replacement gear from GM. 7) All hardened or melonized distributor gears will work with any of the three main core types of camshafts. This is why all GM replacement distributor gears and all new distributors come with a hardened gear. 8) If you install a new camshaft, you should also replace the distributor gear. 9) Since it’s not practical to replace the camshaft when you install a new distributor or distributor gear while keeping the existing camshaft, it would be a good idea to check the distributor gear wear from time to time just to make sure there aren’t any problems developing and the camshaft gear should be checked that it is in good condition prior to the installation of the new gear or distributor with a new gear.
So, to make a long story short, the best rule of thumb is to replace the distributor gear with a new hardened distributor gear every time you replace your existing camshaft with another one (new or not) and that the replacement distributor gear be the one that your GM dealer says is the correct replacement gear for your distributor, if just replacing the gear. For those that have aftermarket distributors (non-GM), you will have to use the correct replacement distributor gear that the manufacturer of that distributor says to use for your distributor. This is due to different shaft sizes being use by manufacturers for their distributors.

Hot Cam Kit (LT4)
This off-highway camshaft kit has the major valve train component to convert production LT1 engine for showroom stock racing, or hop up your small block Chevrolet V8 that was originally equipped with a roller tappet camshaft. The 1.6 roller rockers, light weight valve spring caps, special designed valve springs and hot camshaft offers a significant gain in horsepower at a reasonable price. This kit includes the following items: one camshaft P/N 24502586, 16 roller rocker arms kit P/N 12370839, 16 valve springs P/N 12551483, 16 valve caps P/N 10212808, 16 valve keys P/N 24503856, 16 valve spring shims P/N 10212809. Technical Notes: This kit does not include roller tappets. If your engine already has roller lifters, you can use them with this kit, but always check for wear and replace if needed before installing this kit. If you are building an engine from a bare block, you can use the roller lifter kit P/N 12371042. Special Note For ZZ4 Owners: This kit is worth 40HP more when installed in a ZZ4 which will boost the horsepower from 355 to 395, but the ZZ4 comes with the most of the LT4 HOT Cam Kit components already installed. The camshaft and lifters are all that are needed to complete the LT4 Hot Cam conversion on the ZZ4. The ZZ3 and prior versions of the ZZ4 will require the complete kit for the upgrade. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 112 degrees. Technical Notes: The LT4 camshaft P/N 24502586 was designed to be used in a number of different engines. Therefore, the following change may need to be made to allow for correct assembly of the engine: For LT1 and L98 engines 1995 and before, the dowel pin in the end of the camshaft must be pushed in so extension from end of cam is .30+/-.01”, the same as the production part. For 1996 LT1 and LT4 engines, the dowel pin is in the correct position, extending .620" from the end of the camshaft. This camshaft has a fuel pump lobe. Installation Instructions And Cam Card

NOTE ON BBC CAMSHAFT LIFTER KITS
These new generation of camshaft kits are designed and manufactured by Crane Cams® for GM Parts Division. All kits contain one (1) camshaft and sixteen (16) tappets (lifters). A camshaft is the “brain” that controls the flow of fuel and air through an engine. The camshaft’s lift, duration, and overlap strongly affect an engine’s idle quality, power curve, and rpm potential. GM Performance Parts offers a wide variety of camshafts for big-block Chevrolets, ranging from low-maintenance hydraulic lifter grinds to full-race mechanical tappet profiles. Many of these cams were originally produced for high-performance engine options; others are intended strictly for off-highway competition.
