HT 502 - Tow Truck 502ci Engine
88890534Total towing performance and value for your pre-1980 truck! GM Performance Parts has introduced the Tow Truck 502-Cubic-Inch Big-Block Engine specifically designed for improved towing performance. The massive 502ci Engine is a bolt-in replacement for early-model big-block 396/454ci V8s, with fourbarrel carburetors, originally installed in Chevrolet and GMC 20-series and 30-series trucks. The GM Performance Parts 502ci Big-Block provides a strong foundation for a rugged and reliable truck engine. The increase in cylinder displacement and the improved breathing, produces a significant improvement in pulling power over a production big-block V8. The key differences between the Tow Truck 502ci Engine and High Output 502 engine assemblies are the cylinder heads and camshaft profiles, High Output engines use rectangular port cylinder heads and a more aggressive camshaft to increase horsepower, while replacement 502ci truck engines depend on round-port cylinder heads and a short-duration camshaft to enhance mid-range torque. The key to towing performance is torque and the 502ci Engine is tuned for torque with round-port cast iron cylinder heads and a special hydraulic roller camshaft. This combination yields a staggering 512 ft./lbs. of torque at a modest 2800 rpm! The power rating, 338 horsepower at 4500 rpm, is also impressive. This engine will climb hills, accelerate onto the highway and pull out to pass with the sort of confidence that you’ve come to expect from a GM Performance Parts crate engine. This big-block uses the same rugged bottom end as the H.O. 502 high-performance engine assembly. Its siamesed-bore cylinder block is outfitted with four-bolt bearing caps, a forged steel crankshaft, heavy-duty connecting rods and forged pistons. The engine comes fully assembled and is designed to utilize the existing intake manifold, ignition system and water pump from the original engine. To complete the package, the Tow Truck 502ci Engine includes decals, comprehensive instructions and tune-up specifications. The HT 502 is not intended for marine use, and should only be used in 1976 and earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or any year off road vehicles. |
