The Fast Burn 385 has 385 Horsepower and 385 ft. /lbs of torque to handle just about any application. With value in mind, the Fast Burn uses stamped rocker arms and the same ZZ4 camshaft that powers thousands of hot rods. The Fast Burn is an excellent choice for the basis of a custom engine. Its strong forged steel crankshaft and forged powdered metal connecting rods have been proven to 500 horsepower. GMPP has made it even easier now to install a Fast Burn 385 in your vehicle with this Turnkey Fast Burn 385. This page shows many of the parts included in the kit and parts list.

GMPP Turnkey Fast Burn 385
The Evolution of America’s Favorite Crate Engine
Easier To Install Turnkey Version
P/N 12499710
The GM Performance Parts Fast Burn 385 Turnkey Kit will save you both time and money over buying the Fast Burn 385 and all the parts to make a Turnkey engine separately. This is a kit, but can be assembled on an engine stand using the supplied instructions in just under 4 hours easily. The picture on the right shows the fully assembled kit which took one of our Race Shop tech's less then 2 hours to put together by himself with nothing more then his tool box and the engine stand you see it on. Oh yes, you will also need something like a cherry picker to lift it out of the crate and hold the engine until you can get it attached to the engine stand. The Turnkey Fast Burn 385 comes in a crate which is show below with the Fast Burn 385 engine (P/N 12496769), Serpentine Belt Accessory Drive Package with Air Conditioning (P/N 12497689), Starter, Wires and Looms, Chrome Air Cleaner, Chrome Breather Cap, and 750cfm Carburetor. With not too much effort, you can have this kit put together, in the engine compartment, and ready to go in just a few days working on it after work and on the weekends. A more detailed parts page is available for viewing that has parts list and more pictures of the individual parts that come in the kit. Return to the main page when you are done if you wish.
Assembled Fast Burn 385 Turnkey Kit

Holley 750 Carb
Holley 750 Carb     The Turnkey Fast Burn 385 Kit comes with a GM P/N 12485506 750cfm carb which is the same one that came on the original GMPP ZZ430 crate engine. This is also the Holley 0-80508S carb except it has GM's part number on it.

The starter supplied with this kit is a remanufactured ACDelco 153 tooth, non-gear reduction starter. While this isn't a fancy gear reduction starter, it will get people by just fine. Chevrolet can supply you with a gear reduction starter as an option if you need it. The Fast Burn 385 comes with a 12-3/4” 153 tooth Automatic Flexplate that this starter works well with, but again, if you need something else, Chevrolet can supply it as an option. Belt Tensioner Assembley      The GMPP Serpentine Accessory Belt Drive System "Deluxe With Air" has everything you need to be able to quickly assemble this package. You will need to remove the water pump that comes on the Fast Burn 385 Crate Engine and replace it with the Reverse Rotation water pump that come with this package. Please don’t try to save yourself a step by using the one that comes on the engine. The Serpentine System requires a reverse rotation water pump and the one that come on the Fast Burn 385 crate engine is a normal rotation one. Below is the parts list for this serpentine drive system which is a complete list of parts that come in the package. If you do not wish to run the Air Conditioning compressor, we can supply you an optional Idler Pulley P/N 10055890 that you can install in stead of it.

Above is a picture of the alternator and alternator pigtail supplied with the GM Serpentine Kit. It shows the pigtail connected to the alternator and its four wires. Only the wires coming off of the S and L prongs are used. The other two wires will need to have the loose ends covered to prevent them accidentally shorting to something and tied up to prevent them from getting caught in something.
The alternator socket and alternator pigtail have four connectors but you will only need to use the S and L prongs shown in the pictures and diagrams. The wire coming off the S prong will connect to the large positive stud on the rear of the alternator case, which is marked BATT in the diagrams. A large gauge wire (10 gauge wire preferred) should also be connected to this rear stud and then connected to one of three 12v power source connections denoted as "To Battery" in the diagram. You can use ether connecting directly to the positive battery terminal (preferably through an external lead at the battery terminal), connecting to the large positive stud on the starter, or connecting to a junction box on the firewall if available.

There are two ways of connecting the wire coming off of the L prong. The first way (diagram A) is if the vehicle still has "Gen" (generator) light in the dash, this wire can be connected directly to the "Gen" light through the wiring harness. On GM vehicles manufactured between 1971 and 1987 this will be the brown wire (shown in the diagrams) from the old two wire connector that previously plugged into the old alternator. On pre 1971 GM and other vehicles, consult your service manual for the correct "Gen" lamp lead or find it by tracing the wiring harness. The second way (diagram B) is for street rods or other custom vehicles that do not have a "Gen" lamp or on vehicles with factory gauges. You will need to put a 50 ohm resistor (same wattage rating as the "Gen" lamp) in-line as shown in diagram B. This resistor is needed to take the place of the "Gen" lamp impedance. Then connect the end on the opposite side of the resistor to a 12V switched power source.

The above picture is of the socket on the alternator that the connector on the right will plug into. The picture above has all of the prongs labeled for reference and the connector for the pigtail has the connections that will be used labeled. Below are the two diagrams to use for reference in connecting the alternator to the electrical system of a vehicle.
