GMPP has finally come out with an entry level performance crate engine that is
similar to our GM Goodwrench 350 (Universal Engine) Upgrade Package. The big difference is that you don’t
get the GM Goodwrench 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty with the GMPP 350/290 HP engine. GMPP rates this engine as a GMPP performance engine and carries the same warranty as any other of their performance engines which is basically 12 months parts only. Below is the description of this engine and it’s specifications.

GM GOODWRENCH 5.7L 350CI V8 BASED CRATE ENGINES NAVIGATION
The 350/290 HP Long-Block crate engine comes with black-painted rim mount valve covers, black-painted timing chain cover, and black-painted oil pan.
Important Note: This is a Goodwrench Long-Block crate engine being sold as a Performance engine by GMPP. Therefore it does not have the Goodwrench warranty. This engine is covered by the GMPP warranty only. The 350/290 HP engine is intended for used in 1979 or earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or any off road vehicles and is not intended for marine use. There is no GMPP warranty on this engine if used for marine applications.
12499529 - 350/290 HP V8 Crate Engine
The HP 350/290 is GM Performance Parts’ value leading crate engine, with 290 horsepower @ 5100 RPM, and 326 lb-ft of torque
@ 3,750 RPM on 87 octane fuel. The 350/290 HP will provide great long term durability with its 4-bolt mains, PM steel rods,
strong cast aluminum pistons. The camshaft has .450” intake and .460” exhaust lift with hydraulic flat tappets. The durable cast
iron cylinder heads have 1.94” intake and 1.50” exhaust valves with 76 cc combustion chamber and process healthy amounts of air to deliver strong torque across the rpm range along with great mid-range horsepower. The heads have the
conventional 12 bolt intake manifold attaching design used from 1955 through late 1980.
Delivered as a long-block assembly, you can add items like an intake manifold, carburetor, ignition system, starter, balancer, and water pump for a complete turnkey engine or let Chevrolet make the turnkey engine for you to fit your vehicle and application. (Emissions laws will effect this and the vehicle you plan on putting this engine into. Verify that what you plan to do will be emissions legal in your area before you do anything.) This engine can easily be built up to suit your needs at a cost much less then starting with most other long-block foundations would cost you.

10185063 Intake Manifold
This manifold is used on all ZZ series 350 HO engines and also can be used on all small-block Chevrolet’s thru 1986. This aluminum manifold produces the same horsepower as the previous high-rise design, but provides increased hood clearance and more versatility. It has a dual-pattern flange that can accommodate both standard-flange Holley and spread-bore Quadrajet four-barrel carburetors. This manifold has provisions for all late-model accessory brackets, EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), and an integral hot air choke. A heat shield can be mounted underneath the manifold to prevent coking when EGR is used. Technical Notes: This manifold carburetor flange is approximately 1/2” lower than the LT1 manifold.
12361146 High-Torque Mini-Starter
This high performance gear reduction is designed for 1958-96 Chevrolet V8 and all V6/90° engines (200, 229, and 4.3L). Its compact starter delivers plenty of torque and it is a small package which offers increased clearance for extended oil pans and headers exhaust systems. This lightweight (10.5 pound) and powerful (1.2 kilowatt output) starter relies on a 3.75:1 gear reduction to spin a high-compression engine. This mini starter has a red Chevrolet Bow Tie logo and a dual bolt pattern for 12-3/4” (153 tooth) and 14” (168 tooth) flywheel. Mounting bolts and shims, gaskets and electrical connectors are included. Technical Notes: This unit can be rotated to clear most exhaust systems. This starter is not recommended for competition.
93440806 HEI Distributor
Cast aluminum distributor for use with small-block and big-block V8 high output engine assemblies. Mechanical advance curve is suitable for high-performance applications. Vacuum advance canister included. Use connector P/N 12167658 to attach tachometer and 12-volt power supply wire to distributor.
12361056 Performance Spark Plug Wire Set
This set is for small-block V8, with GM Performance Parts logo and 135° spark plug boots which are recommended for routing over rocker covers. Technical Notes: This "8MM Wire" with logo has 600 OHMS per foot resistance. With double-wall silicone construction, it has silicone boots for superior heat protection. The wire set includes a 10 type distributors.
06272221 6.75” Torsional Damper
This cast iron torsional damper (harmonic balancer) is used on most 1969 and later production 305 and 350ci small-block V8s. It is recommended for V6/90° racing engines and V8 applications with limited clearance. 6.75” diameter balancers have also been used successfully on drag racing small-blocks in classes which permit the use of cast iron dampers. The timing mark is 10° before keyway center line. Technical Notes: Use with chromed timing pointer GM P/N 12342000 (Proform P/N 141-200) or GM P/N 03991435 bolt on steel pointer for 6.75” and 7.00” balancers.
12371208 Black Crinkle Painted Die Cast Aluminum Valve Covers
These tall, black crinkle painted, die cast aluminum V8 valve covers have the name "Chevrolet" and the Bow Tie cast in the top and red painted. They fit all small block Chevrolet engines from 1958 through 1986 with flange (rim) mounting bolt holes. Two covers per box. Technical Notes: This cover will not work with 1.6 roller rockers. Chevrolet Note: Any rim mount Chevrolet style valve cover will work, like the Proform, and B&B ones we show on our web site. The ones that come with this crate engine are fine. They are just the stock Goodwrench “Plain Jane" stamped steel black painted ones. If you really want to spice up the looks of this engine, take a look at the Proform dress-up kits and other Proform items. To further spice it up, you could consider a nice set of wire looms from Proform, GM, or R&M.
03814970 Corvette Exhaust Manifold (Right Hand) {Discontinued}
This is the right-hand version of the 1962-65 Corvette “ram's horn” high-flow exhaust manifold. Technical Notes: Generator mount is on the side of the manifold. Chevrolet Note: We are not sure why GMPP even suggested these or bothered putting them in the 2005 GMPP catalog. They had already discontinued all the other ones including the (LH) match to this one and now they have also discontinued this one too. For performance purposes, these where never that good, but some just liked the looks. You were always better off getting yourself a good set of headers to go with your brand new engine then trying to use these.
00471529 V8 & V6/90° Automatic Transmission Flexplate
Outside diameter is 12-3/4” for years 1969-85. Crank Flange bolt pattern: 3.58”; Converter Bolt Pattern.: 9.75”, 10.75”; starter ring gear teeth: 153. For internally balanced engine with two-piece crank seal. Torque converters for TH350 and TH400 transmissions are produced with both 10.75” and 11.50” diameter converter bolt patterns. To identify the correct pattern, measure from the converter center to an attaching bolt hole and then multiply this dimension by 2.
14085720 Flywheel
Outside diameter is 12-3/4” for years 1955-85. Crank Flange bolt pattern: 3.58”; clutch dia.: 10.4”; starter ring gear teeth: 153. Lightweight nodular iron flywheel. Weighs approximately 15 pounds. For 2-piece crank seal.
12497318 4L60E Four-Speed Automatic Transmission
This new 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission assembly features electronic control of shift points, shift feel and torque converter clutch application. The two piece transmission case allows use behind GM engines that have a Chevrolet V8 bellhousing bolt pattern and produce no more than 370 lb-ft of gross engine torque. This gearbox features a 3.06 first gear ratio for great acceleration and a 0.70 overdrive fourth gear ratio improved fuel economy. The high stall torque converter produces a stall speed of approximately 2300 RPM behind most small-block engines. The output shaft does not contain provisions for a mechanical speedometer application. The production use of this transmission assembly was for the police package 350 Vortec powered Chevrolet Tahoe. For proper transmission operation for both carbureted and fuel injected applications a control module and wiring harness is also available separately. 4L60E gear ratios: 1st 3.06, 2nd 1.75, 3rd 1.00, 4th 0.70. Use with transmission controller P/N 12497316.
12497316 4L60E Transmission Controller
Includes wiring harness, controller, software and lap-top hook-up. Allows the use of electronically controlled transmissions in early model vehicles. Fully programmable for upshift, downshift, part throttle and wide-open shifts and shift firmness. Comes pre-programmed, just enter your rear tire diameter and rear axle ratio and go, or create your own custom shift characteristics. Originally developed by GM Racing for off road truck racing. The controller has the ability to record and graph drag race data like time, speed, shift point, engine rpm and more. Requires a throttle position sensor on carbureted applications, see instruction manual for specific parts required.
